Mike,

You most definitely! can use the terminal to do ftp. I do it all the time!

ftp hostname

Then type your user name and hit enter.

Then your pwd and hit enter.

Then use all your standard commands.

I'm not gonna list what they do, but I'll give you a list of some of the major
ones below, and you can google what they do, if you don't know.

lcd
cd
mkdir
rm
lcp
ls
ls -1
chmod
chown
mv
exit
get
put
bin

That's just to name some of the most useful commands.

You also can do

ftp username:password:port@hostname

Finally, pasv is another good command worth noting and looking up.

Thank you kindly,

Christopher-Mark Gilland.

Is there a way to do traditional FTP from the terminal? I ask, because I was
only able to figure out how to ask FTP from the terminal. Additionally, the
trick with mounting the drive on the finder, I have found has only work for
some FTP servers. For example my server that I have with host gator won't allow
me to mount the FTP server on the finder, and copy files over. I can Peru's the
FTP server via the finder, but am unable to copy or paste files that way. This
is why I decided to utilize Transmit.

  Thanks

It is not a client, but I just mounted the server I need by pressing cmd-k
in Finder. Now I need only open that volume to list all the files and folders
on the server. You could also use Terminal if you enjoy the command line.

        Hey all,
Can anyone recommend an accessible FTP client?
