There is Flash, the web browser plugin that lets you play the
proprietary Flash multimedia files often used to play videos or games on
the web and is usually inaccessible. Flash is also a type of memory
which, unlike traditional computer memory, does not lose its content
when power is disconnected. So those little USB thumb drives and stuff
are sometimes called Flash drives because they use Flash memory. Flash
memory has finally become cheap enough to be used for mass storage
instead of a hard drive. While it's still more expensive than a normal
spinning disk, it is also much faster and takes much less power. It
'should' also be much more resistant to issues from bangs and bumps
because there are no moving parts.

The flash you're speaking of though, is different than flash content
found on websites, right?

Solid state drive use flash and no moving parts, as opposed to
conventional hard drives. THis essentially enable them to operate
faster. If you're not doing anything too terribly intensive, it may be
difficult to see immediate benefits from going with a SSD.
Conventional hard drives are significantly more economical.

Hi,
There exists a multitude of configuration options for storage. I
believe you're talking about the macBOok pro line, the one with the
optical drive.
Off the top of my head, I believe it starts out at 500Gb and up for
hard drives. And then there are a bunch of SSD flash storage
options. Quicker seek time and no moving parts etc.

Hi Chris,
What capacities for hard drives are available for the model we're
discussing? Perhaps this doesn't apply, not sure.

Hello Anita
then it's the Macbook Pro with non-retina display. This is the
only choice now if you want one with an optical drive built in.
Chris.

Hi List,
I'm getting a MacBook, but am not sure how to choose the best
one. Having a CD slot is essential. This may limit my
selections/choices, buthaving a laptop is what I want, and just
wanna get the most for my money.
Thanks for any info.
