By default when you connect to filesharing on another Mac you get a
virtual drive which has access to all the folders in your home
directory. In other words, the default is when I connect to another Mac
I get access to everything /Users/cblouch on that machine. So unless you
need access to some other place you shouldn't need to manually add any
additional shares, although that is certainly doable. Short answer is
no, you don't share files, you share folders and anything inside that
shared folder.

do I have to share individual files, or can I give permission to share

When I connect to another Mac I bring up the Network (command-K) and
tab to Browse, hit space, then I get a list of networked computers.
From there I up/down arrow through the finder network table list to
find the machine I want to connect to. After that I hit Command-O on
the machine which will connect me as a Guest and I can arrow through
the Finder server list of sharepoints. If I don't want to connect as
a guest I have to VO-left once to get to the Connect As… button and
VO-space on that to get a login dialog. After authenticating I'm
dropped back but the Connect As… has turned into a Disconnect button.
If I then VO-Right once I'm back to the table of sharepoints but in
addition to the public folder there are also shares for my account
folder and, since I'm the admin on that box, the Macintosh HD. So if
I arrow up to my cblouch sharepoint and hit command-O it mounts that
on my desktop and drops me into a window showing the contents of that
share. This is all on OSX 10.8 so hopefully it rhymes a lot if you're
on something else.

Hi.
I can see my second Mini on the shift-command-k network menu, but I
cannot access it. I tried highlighting the computer name and
pressing command-o, left clicking, right clicking, pressing enter
and doubletapping my trackpad. Anyone with suggestions, thanks much.
