Hi,

Yes, that's normal.  You may still be able to re-download it from the AppStore. 
 Did you go under your Purchased items to see if GarageBand was in the list?  
It's in my list and I dint' purchase it separately either.  So, if it is in the 
list of Purchased items, you will be able to re-download it for sure.  If it's 
not, then let me know and I'll think how to make it show up for you.
