Hi, Hmmm. Thanks for the machine info. The Help Centre doesn't require very much memory at all so you having 16 GB is plenty to handle numerous apps simultaneously. The next thing that I'd try is to go to your AppStore, press cmd-4 to bring up the table of Purchased items, confirm that GarageBand is available under your Apple ID. If it is, quit the AppStore, go to the Finder in your Application folder and cmd-delete on the GarageBand app. Then re-open the AppStore and download a fresh copy of GarageBand. After it's done downloading, open up the new, fresh copy of GarageBand and see if it behaves nicer.
