Hi, Do you know which version of GarageBand you're running. Version 6.0.5 or version 10.0.1? You can figure this out by either going into your Applications folder and doing a cmd-i (Get Info) on your GarageBand app or by going under the GarageBand menu while in GarageBand and choosing About GarageBand. In version 10.*.*, you need to make sure that you've chose the type of project you wish to work on, either new or existing, otherwise, the Help and Preferences stuff will be dimmed and thus, unavailable. Also, make sure that Quick Help is turned off, that is, if it is checked in the Help menu, then uncheck it by going to it again and pressing return on it.
