#328: Changeset 1404 doesn't compile on Xscale

We are running an IXP425 platform and cast needs to be as an unsigned long
not a pointer for the xscale platform. We reverted down to change set 1403
and everything seems to be fine. So the 1404 change doesn't compile on
xscale.
