it seems to be related to the link quality.
i just dd'ed 1meg of /dev/uradom to an nfs share from two laptops with
atheros cards, one sitting 1 meter from the access point, the other 4
meters...
the closer one got through just fine, the other one's still at it and
filling its dmesg buffer with nfs timeout messages.
