 I don't know how many times you tried connections under each kernel to
 make a conclusion that one configuration works and another doesn't.  I
 don't know whether the distance is so significant that the low signal
 level reported by iwconfig can be trusted.  The output of iwconfig would
 need to be compared between two kernels.  It may be an issue with ANI
 (ambient noise immunity), which may be broken on some architectures.  You
 didn't post the scanninig results, so I still don't know where the
 "invalid nwid" are coming from.  I think the issue may be better discussed
 in the mailing list, as it's turning into a long discussion, and the issue
 doesn't seem to be directly related to the AR5007 support per se.
