Agreed. Without the two above though, highwater marking is nigh on impossible
though :-(

I've not seen it implemented as a database in the access / MySQL sense
anywhere. Mostly it is just a textfile based system although it has been some
time since I looked at how any program did it. 

Introducing a db would be a fairly fundamental change. There are a lot of
things we could do if we had one underpinning M but I suspect lots would be
unwilling to give up their MBX / MBOX ;-)

I on the other hand would love the idea. I suspect that if we do go the full
groupware direction in the future, having a decent database storage system
would be very useful.
