After I fired up M to try the dialog qustion you asked, I switched back to
KMAIL, was not using M, bu it was still running. After a minute or or two
one of those red crash boxes of M's popped up.

Is M really this unstable that I have to run it under GBD, or is there some
thing more fundamently wrong with my system?
One of the reasons I was looking to switch email programs is that A) I
wanted some thing more like the old DOS program YARN, which M seems to be.
B) I wanted some thing more stable that kmail that crashes maybe once a month
for no reason that I've figured out yet.
