Yes.

The problem may be one of KDE's, but I don't recall any of the other programs 
 that I use acting this way.  If some one knows a standard KDE program that 
would open a new window in the same manner I'll give it a try.

Some times I wish I didn't use KDE, just inertia and lack of time is keeping 
me from looking for some thing better.

Alt-Space didn't do any thing.  I've tried all of the windows like stuff I 
could think of.
