Hi all,

there's one thing in M where I'm lost in space...

When searching mail (with Menu: Message/Search) M selects all matching
mails. But what can I do with this selection?

Generally, I would at first like to jump to each matching mail.
The best way would be to narrow the view to these matching mails.

Selecting them is nice to work with them, such as moving them to another
folder. But for jumping I would have to flag these selected mails and "jump
to next flagged" afterwards. But if I am using the flag for another
purpose, I can't do that. I don't see any other way to jump from a selected
line to the next.

So, how is the search operation intended to be used?

Perhaps a generalized concept of flags would help.
Why not have many kinds of flags (any character?) and treat the unread,
new, etc. simply as one of them? E.g. the result of a search could be
flagged S.

Then we would need "select all flagged x" (like "select all unread" now).
Also "narrow view to selected" (= hide unselected) would be very nice.
If "narrow" is not possible, we could instead allow sorting by a flag (flagged
x come first).

bye, H.
