One could work with a real "Search results" folder. (an ineffective
workaround, but better let the computer do some ineffective work than the
user)

I just tried: Created an Folder "Search results", 
              after the search copied the selected messages there
              worked on them
              deleted them
              
If there were some nice keyboard shortcuts for these actions, I could live
with this approach.

!! However, the current message stays selected after a search as well and
will turn up in the Search results buffer also if it doesnot match the
search !!

Also annoying: if I go to one message and back to the folder, the selection
is lost and I have to invoce the search once again :-(

Maybe the workaround with a real folder is easier to implement and could
save us a lot of hazzle while waiting for a proper solution...
