Now that is what I call a nice and sensible post in the flood of
emails in ILUG list recently.
Wondering why people can't share a lighter moment !
I know Madhu for the last 8 years. We both were active members of the
LUG. He is working in a non-tech field but he know a lot more than
what these new opensource lovers !
Regarding the last series, the 'FREE' confused me as well even though
I am not new to the Free Softwares, Free Beer and Free Speech ;)
And generally - there are a lot of factors why people can't shift into
opensource completely ditching MS products all of a sudden. Forcing
them to use only opensource or asking them to hate MS will not help
the community. That is not the way. Don't shoot people if they are
using Windows. Let them use opensource applications first, let them
get familiar with opensource alternatives, then we can talk about OS
shift.
I am sending this email from a paid and propritary OS that I use for
development. I have my own reasons why I can't use Linux (or GNU/Linux
or whatever! ) as my primary OS right now. At the same time, I am
using a lot of (more than 10 softwares on a daily use) opensource
alternatives, very happily.
Think of Adobe Dreeamweaver as an example. As far as I know there are
no substitute for that in the free or opensource section, not even
near to that. By alternative I meant, all the functionalities and ease
of use for a developer. Correct me if I am wrong. There are fields
where opensource has lot of better alternatives, but there are fields
where opensource lags behind too. That is a fact which we can't ignore.
Take it easy, lil bit of humor or or going lil offtopic never hurt :)
Best Regards
Din.

Lot of "hate" mails persuaded me to send this quote (and the pic :))
"There are extremists in the free software world, but that's
one major reason why I don't call what I do 'free software' any
more. I
don't want to be associated with the people for whom it's about
exclusion and hatred." - Linus
Hope this spreads some light!
We need more and more people adopting free/open/"whatever" software.
That's it!
