My 2 cents:

I have seen a lot of instance where it is said - GIMP is no good when
compared to photoshop ; There is no alternative for Dreamweaver ..etc etc.
This make make a negative impact on newbies ;as they will take these ideas
for granted and never try to use a alternative - The simple reason they will
quote is "Person X who already use GNU says GIMP is inferior to Photoshop "
.

But as proponents of GNU ;we must always encourage people to GIMP( I am sure
there are many things in GIMP (or for that any GNU s/w ) that lay unexplored
simply because no one try to use it ).

This creates an environment where people tend to fix their paths themselves
; create new features for softwares themselves when they find it is
necessary . I have heard somewhere that RMS started it all when he needed a
printer to work without the proprietary driver from the manufacturer . That
must be the spirit ! .

I am not a web dev or a Gimp power user .But i have used GNU exclusively in
my PC when its sound driver wouldnt work . I could simply have used Windows
with sound . But that sacrifice I guess was necessary to uphold an idea that
I believed in .

Right now my laptop runs video very slowly ( and I am a movie buff) ;
because of some driver problems with the poulsbo chipset i have in Lucid
Lynx . But i dont care ........and I think thats the spirit.

RMS speech's always have a lot of hatred towards Windows/MS/Bill . While
It may seem useless if we think in one point of view ; I think the idea he
has employed is blind following for an ideology through some tricks like
hatred for an opponent . I dont think he is a fool ! .rather he is smarter
than all of us. Same is the case with FSF propaganda like windows 7 sins etc
:) .

So to put it short - When you say - "Think of Adobe Dreeamweaver as an
example. As far as I know there are no substitute for that in the free or
opensource section, not even near to that" - you are not fit for being a
part of this community as you are using GNU / Free Software just for your
selfishness and you may never have had true respect and allegiance to a
community /a brotherhood that creates Software just for the fun of it :)
