one thing i've used in the past to remap keys is "karabiner elements"
this might be something you can customize for your purposes. it can do
complex modifications where if you press a key it does one thing and if
you press and hold it with another key it does another thing. something
like remapping caps lock to escape and capslock + something else does
something else or caps lock with anything else will chord out
cmd-ctrl-option-shift-{that key}
the options are pretty powerful though the config files are a bit
intimidating for most people i'd assume.

Right, normal click on both.
Also, the first one (⌘ +SHIFT+U - mark as read) keystroke marks a
varied group of read and unread messages as read first, then a second
click will flip it to unread.
Yes, both are standard settings MacOS Finder for file handling.
That’s how I discovered them.
Benny mentioned in another post that he doesn’t want to include
instructions on anything but MM app operation, not System defaults
text substitutions or configurations. Probably a very good idea as
they are subject to modification from outside the app, about which he
has no control.
I think it’s worthwhile for users to know that it’s supported in
MM, as not all apps do (even though you’d think it was true
everywhere, it isn’t). MM has added many features that take getting
used to, but so far, none that affect the system setting’s
functionality within the app environment.

Shown as the key-equivalent for Message -> Mark Unread

I don't see this with right-click (I see a context menu). Did you
mean left-click? If so, this sounds like Standard MacOS selection
behavior
* Shift+right click = select a contiguous group of messages starting
from the top, click the first one, then go the bottom of a
contiguous group and then do this to select them all.
Again, I don't see this with right-click (I see a context menu). Did
you mean left-click? If so, this also sounds like standard MacOS
selection behavior
* All text based substitutions you may have in MacOS. Like the ⌘
CMD key, ⌥ OPT keys.
* Fractions, superscripts, Universal charactersets if enabled in
your system settings.
Given that these are bog-standard MacOS, I'm not sure why Benny
should document them in MailMate's documentation. But I'm perfectly
willing to believe that I've misunderstood something.
