Dear Jessica Thanks for your reply. I now suspect that this is a general issue with OS X 10.10 on my hardware, and doesn't necessarily have anything to do specifically with Mailplane. I have noted poor graphics responsiveness in some other applications also. It seems to occur only when using the integrated Intel graphics instead of the dedicated NVIDIA card (that is, on battery power with automatic graphics switching enabled). Other people seem to be having similar issues on the same type of machine (2012-early 2013 retina MBP), for example: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1803619
So it looks like we are at the mercy of Apple to get this fixed. A workaround in the meantime is to disable automatic graphics switching, although this has a cost of reduced battery life.
