Actually, the evidence, or lack thereof, suggests that Santa's secret
base moves around- in other words it is most likely to be at the North
Magnetic Pole (quite probably, the magnetic field is itself a by-product
of Santa's massive power-generation system).
A southern location would be grossly inefficient, on account of the lack
of reindeer herds.

Of course those in the Northern hemisphere assume Santa lives at the North
Pole.
But does he? After all the North Pole is only a European construct, on a
seasonal ice platform. Talk about arguing with no foundation!
On the other hand, Antarctica is a landmass covered by solid water. (I will
admit there are two layers....but the land did not slip itself under the
ice-sheet...I think)
If you were Santa where would you base yourself?
Perhaps the North Pole story is a clever strategy to direct inquisitive
people away from the real truth...
Or perhaps we are responding to an ever-elaborate scheme to construct a
"new" truth from nothing.
A fellow elf from Santa's business base tells me that in the software
industry this is called vapour-ware.
