According to the Cartographica article by C. Heidenreich, referenced by Joel Kovarsky, Measures of Distance Employed on 17th and Early 18th Century Maps of Canada the lieue dune heure was a flexible measure representing the distance a man could walk in an hour over an unimpeded course. Heidenreich surmises that the lieue dune heure was about three statute miles. A table in his article gives late 17th and 18th century equivalents as 18,245 feet, 3.45 statute miles and 5.55km.
