Regarding ProServer.
Although this product was pulled, it did work very well. THe idea that your
existing workspaces were simply dumped on your net server was great. Very
simple to set up and the VB CGI worked a treat. It definitely was the
fastest way to internet-enable your workspaces (and have navigation
controls). It is of course old news now but i do think it was a shame that
it was pulled so quickly after release. MI ProS was a rapid development
environment. MapXtreme on the other hand....

MapX can do it as well. MapXtreme comes with extra objects to manage mapping
sessions, etc. You really don't need to use them if you don't want to. It
depends on the traffic. We negotiated with MapInfo to let us use MapX for an
"intranet" site with less than 40 users(that comes with the SDK) as a test.
At that time we only had about 30 people who used the site. We used it to
develop and test so we could convince management it was something to do for
clients on the internet. We eventually bought 2 copies of MapXtreme NT and 2
of MapXtreme Java NT bundled as part of a package with COVLOC. A Coverage
Locator tool for customer address lookups, outages, problems, etc with
MapMarker and StreetPro.
MapInfo used to have a product called Proserver, before MapX came around.
It uses OLEISAPI, the precursor to ActiveX and the IIS API for ASP. We could
never get that thing working. It was very similar to CGI. You would have to
compile an exe in C++ or maybe VB and call MapInfo through MapBasic. We
found it easier at that point to write a Mapbasic app to create static
images from workspaces with tables where data changed often and put them
into a scheduler and run them once or twice day and push the maps to the
web.
I would say, download MapX or MapXtreme trial version, try development with
it using ASP and vb/javascript. Then talk to a vendor or MapInfo directly
about what you need.

There are ways to drive MapInfo over a web connection, but you would
be committing a major violation of the license if you did that.
Internet applications are licensed differently (i.e. MapXtreme is
priced differently depending on how many will be using it.) However,
I don't know about using MapX... that might be an inexpensive way to
do web apps (assuming you don't mind the price of the SDK and forty
licenses.) I'd have to go read the license to be sure of that.
