Rob I have 256Mb of RAM in my machine with a Nvidia Riva TNT2 M64 Pro Video card. This amount of ram should be adequate for the work that I am undertaking, I think.
I'm going to try another option posted by Lars Neilson Hi Mark, We've seen this problem too, and think it's a conflict between certain graphics cards and MapInfo Pro's internal map redraw optimization routine. A work-around is to disable Pro's optimization, and that's done in the registry by setting the key (adding it, if it's not there) "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/MapInfo/MapInfo/Common/OffScreenBitmap" to 0 (maybe string "0"). And restart Pro. The redraw will be slower, but you won't have any fragmentation problems. I don't know why it happens on some machines. Maybe the graphic card's too fast, or maybe it's not 100% complaint to specs. If anyone's got an idea as to the core of the problem, I'd be delighted to know too. I have some machines that work fine, but other that don't. The problem seemed to appear in MapInfo 5.5 (I could be wrong), and seemed to be worse in MapInfo 6 (I don't have 6.5 to compare with).
