The easiest way to remember this it to think of dogs and cats.
1 Dog sounds like Long and Cat sounds like Lat.
2 So, dogs are long and cats are fat.
3 If a dog is long, it is usually tall. And cats are usually fat which
means their bellies are wide.
4 So dogs are long which is tall which means that longitude lines are
the tall lines that run from pole to pole (and poles are tall and long!)
- and cats are fat which equals wide which means that latitude lines are
horizontal lines that make the earth look fat.
Yeah, it's sooooo simple. ;)

The easiest way to remember lat/long is to remember they are the
opposite of
x,y.
X and Y are easy so when you are think what is lat/long just say
long/lat
and you will have it.
