Richard, Flavio, you are all right regarding the workarounds and the other stuff about simple features you mentioned "against" Oracle Spatial.
But in my opinion Oracle spatial is not for storing data for the real GIS-technical work (maybe its good for Geomedia, it has good Oracle support and extents the simple features) , but it is the best system for storing company-wide data in simple data models and to access this data in an easy way. No user in a government department wants to look at cadastral data in a way the cadastral data is stored. It is very technical, complex and no one, beside the cadastral staff, knows about the data model, it is too complex. So, if this data has to be shared with other people, you have to "translate" it and to store it in a much more public accepted data model. You can use CITRA (FME as well) to do this data translation and store the "simple" data in Oracle without any loss of information. That is the benefit, imo By the way, if you live in a complete homogeneous environment, there is no need for a neutral solution, stay with your gis vendor and become happy.
