Hello! Jeroen
My firm had to replace the whole motherboard of our 2500 model. This was really
problematic because HP doesn't support this model anymore. So they had to find the
part in "old parts". Explains why they like to "buy back" old plotter. So after 2
weeks, they eventually track down the part but they said it was the last one they had
in stock. So if it breaks again, we would be out of luck.
Imagine if I would buy a ford focus and in 4 years, I'm told, sorry! we don't make
that car anymore and we don't have parts for it, you need to buy a new car! (Almost
the same price!)
But we had the same problem...slow plotter, blocking the plot, etc.
Oh! It cost 1000$ Can to replace the board which comes out like 2-3$ US (kidding)
Our 650 is just plotting away with no problem. Guess they don't make them like in the
old days!
Good luck!

Our HP 2500 cp plotter appears to suffer from a slow but increasingly
"congestive" CPU and/or other electronic failure.

My question to the fellow MI users is how many of you have purchased annual
maintenance agreements for this machine vs. those that have not? HP wants
about $1600.00 - $1900.00 to just take a look at what might be the problem,
which coincides with the cost of annual maintenance (ofcourse). I am up and
running now for about 4.5 years which equals in maintenance about the cost
of a new plotter.

My impression has always been that HP plotters are virtually indestructible
and go forever?

How long have some of you been able to run trouble free with the HP
plotters?. I still have a 650 that runs like a champ after almost ten years
and many miles of paper!

I appreciate your input.
