Moshe Binyamin (of MapInfo) told me that ver 8 will still work
with MapBasic programs. They are planning on improving the code
interpreter to translate old mbx into .NET calls. I'm still a bit
vague on how this will work (or even if I understand it
correctly), but I don't think MapBasic developers need to worry
about ver. 8. 

Of course, the writing's on the wall, so I guess we better study
up on MS Visual Studio .NET and XML. What little I know now of
.NET does seem interesting, but like it or not, it's a Microsoft
world. Resistance is futile.
