" Now, on to the future! MapInfo Professional 8, due next year, will be built on .NET. The big concern I've read about on MapInfo-L concerns MapBasic, the customization language for MapInfo. Weinberger assures me that V8 will support all current functionality AND continue support for existing MapBasic applications. Applications written for MapInfo Professional in MapBasic should "just work" in version 8. One of the big new additions will be the ability to use Microsoft's Visual Studio to build applications. " I assume, that MI Pro 8.0 will support MapBasic in it's current form. Good for the MB developers and for MapInfo Corp. Another section in the article describes that MapX and MapExtreme (NT I'll presume) will be synchronized and converted to .Net. That's a no-brainer improvement for MapInfo Corp (and the MapX developers). What I'm (still) is missing is some information about the MapInfo Pro 8.0 .Net implementation from the developers viewpoint: Objects, Methods, Properties. As Lars V. Nielsen has mentioned in a previous mail, there is a huge difference in the current "table" based approach in MapInfo and more "CAD with GIS" centric approach in MapX. What's the new Mi-Pro 8.0 approach regarding the object model ?? Will it be a MapX Plus ??
