SHP files can be opened directly in MapInfo (version 7).
Go to file open in MI Pro and pull down the file type list to select ESRI(R)
Shape file (*.shp) to open SHP files directly (of course it will create a
TAB file automatically by the same name as the SHP file)
Also dbf files can be opened in a similar manner.
