Thanks for the response to my query about map book creation software. What I was looking for is a tool that can break up a regional map into into numbered pages (with page references to the neighboring pages and a tabular index of mapped features referencing the pages they appear on. Much like a city street map book or a fire dept. "run" book.
There were a number of people who offered some code to solve the general problem of breaking up a map into panels. One suggestion was to use Adobe PDF Distiller and print a large map in panels simply by setting the output page size to 8.5 x 11 or whatever. However, I need numbered pages and the ability to customize the output pages, so this solves only part of the problem. At least two commercial solutions exist. MapInfo Australia offers MapShop (formerly SpeedMap) for about AU$2500 (http://www.mapinfo.com/au/products/Overview.cfm?productid=1725). Integrated Mapping sells a product called Map Series Generator for an undisclosed sum (http://www.integrated-mapping.com/products.html.) There's not much info on Map Series Generator, but the reports are that it's "Quick and Easy to Use." MapShop looks very complete, including additional tools like feature-oriented labeling and feature index table creation. -- - Bill Thoen ------------------------------------------------------------ GISnet, 1401 Walnut St., Suite C, Boulder, CO 80302 tel: 303-786-9961, fax: 303-443-4856 http://www.gisnet.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ --------------------------------------------------------------------- List hosting provided by Directions Magazine | www.directionsmag.com | To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Message number: 7525
