Apart from the immidiate presentation, one thing to note about the application is that 4 out of 5 basemaps (Grundkort) are (cascaded) WMS services, and all the layers in the group of county themes (Regionplan) are drawn from a 5th WMS service. 4 of the 5 WMS services actually run off the same server, making it both more versatile as a data provider and easier to manage. All due to Mapserver's built-in WMS client+server capabilities. This solution is run by all Open Source, i.e. Apache, PHP, Mapserver and MySQL, running on a dual-PIII Win2K server.
