A little tip to the linking business:

If you use the project file as reference when linking, you don't need to have the .mbp 
file in focus or even open:
"C:\MI_Link.bat" "%rp%rn"

> start/wait MAPBASIC.EXE -NOSPLASH -L -D %1.mbp
> if exist %1.err type %1.err

Also remember that you can force UltraEdit to use the "short" filenames if you use the 
capital versions like %RP%RN and %R%N
