Hi Ian,

What port the WMS service uses is normally determined by the web server used. It's
typically 80, but could equally be 8008, 8080 or
any other relevant number.

MapInfo Pro shouldn't care about it either, since the port's an integrated part of the
server url, even if it's not mentioned
explicitly. This is not a guarantee though.

You should probably have a closer look at the middleware, and possibly test your
connection with just a browser.

Subject: MI-L WMS Server TCP Port

Hi All,

I am working on a method to access WMS servers through firewalls and proxy
servers that require authentication. I need to know if WMS servers just use
TCP port 80 or if they use other ports as well.

The program I am trying to use is called HTTPort (http://www.htthost.com),
it creates HTTP tunnels through proxy servers and firewalls. So far I have
successfully got it to work for news groups, but I am having trouble with
WMS servers. I am trying to connect to MapInfo's Global WMS Server
(http://www.mapinfo.com/miwms), but my results have become confusing. I
keep getting a "Not Found" error message (at least it beats "Access
Denied").

I am looking for any ideas, comments, etc..

Cheers Ian
