Text objects anchor and rotate around the top-left of the first character.
True type symbols anchor and rotate around their local centre.
There is some odd behaviour with TT symbols which can be troublesome if your want to
rotate
unbalanced symbols (by which I mean that the ideal rotate point is not the centre of
the graphic).
It's an interesting area to experiment with in MapInfo.
