I looked at a demo copy of GeoBasemap early last year and liked how it
handles geologic symbols.

However, since GeoBasemap symbols are based on standard usage in
Australia and the agency I work for tries to follow the U.S. Geological
Survey symbol specifications, I had a problem. It would be nice if there
were an international geologic symbol set. However, this isn't realistic
as local conditions often give rise to new geologic symbol creation.
This leads to another problem - GeoBasemap doesn't allow for a user to
add new geologic symbols to the program.

I reported these problems to a U.S. reseller of the program (Geomax) last
year and subsequently provided a complete digital set of U.S.G.S. symbols
to the reseller, to pass on to Exa-Min for incorporating into the
program.

It's a new year and I have yet to hear of any plan to provide a U.S.G.S.
symbol set with their GeoBasemap product.

" For MapInfo users we provide a set of annotated geological symbols in
our
commercial GeoBasemap Mapping System product. These are true type fonts
defined with the anchor point as the symbol centroid. We hold the symbol
annotate (eg dip or foliation angle) in a separate MI table and
automatically maintain database pointers between the symbol and
annotate."
