Carl,

We have had the streaking part of the problem occassionally and I have
some suggestions (generally the HP's give very little trouble):-

* To be safe, only use new HP ink cartridges - never refills or
compatables unless you are very, very sure they don't cause trouble.

* Check the edge of the paper roll for crinkles or other raised sections
- these can be touched by the cartridges and which can cause blockages.
We had to stop using a particular brand of paper because of raised edges
on 90% of their rolls.  Another time, it looked like the rolls had been
dropped on their ends.

* When the streaks start, get the plotter to recallibrate the cartridges
- we have had great success rehabilitating faulty cartridges this way -
Sometimes this needs to be done a few times for the cartridge to come
good.
