My comments are two-fold
1. Complaints about annoyances
2. Suggestions for a strategy to more closely monitor such annoyances by
setting up computer labs where real people monitor real people who are
using the software.
Such "focus groups" should include both new and experienced users. The new
users should include newcomers to desktop mapping, as well as those
newcomers who have significant experience with other mapping software.
I'm pleased to see all the responses about the annoyances. I figured I'd
remind folks that there was a second "suggestion" component, as well.
I'd like to hear from MapInfo whether they ever do product development
this way. I suspect that they don't, or you wouldn't see some of these
longstanding annoyances still in the product. Any chance MapInfo could
actually do that? It's one thing to do beta tests and compile wish lists,
but a lot of the nitty-gritty issues only occur when you sit down with
someone in front of the computer, and listen to them when they say "I
would've expected that..." or "I don't get how to do this." or "Why is
there no way to..." etc.
