There's no denying that Maptitude is a great value for the $,
and the interface is friendly.
However, you'll find very rapidly that there are lots of
things it won't do -- large chunks of functionality and
little things that you assume it will do, but it won't.
We found significant stability problems in versions
3.x and 4.0. We didn't find much in the way of
technical support.
It's handy for some quick things (including routing)
but there no danger of our giving up MapInfo
(or ArcView or ARC/INFO) for it.
