Hi Steve, FOSS4G workshops are 4 hours long, so preparing materials will take the bulk of the time, then (assuming the workshop is accepted) travel costs to Estonia in July to present the workshop, and updating the materials based on feedback. I really like the pygeoapi workshop [1] which I presume Tom wrote, so will attempt to produce something similar. It would be good to have funding between $1000-$1500 to put towards completing this.
For the OGC compliancy, it might be simplest to limit scope to just WMS with a kick-off budget of ~$500. This would include setting up automated tests, data, fixes required to pass the tests, and sorting out updating the certificate. If this approach works well then the other protocols can be added gradually. Other items to consider: - A querystring request fuzzer (still work in progress) would likely raise several high risk vulnerabilities, so maybe some budget could also be set aside for this (Even has taken care of nearly all vulnerabilities so far). - Adding the OGC Maps API protocol to MapServer. The last detailed MapServer budget is the 2021 one in the wiki [3]. The release manager role and ad-hoc vulnerability fixes are still relevant so should be added to the 2024 budget. The 2023 OSGeo budget lists MapServer as having a $3,500 budget with 2500$ added from sponsors - although from Mike's email maybe the sponsor money should have been $250. I'm unsure if any of this can roll-over into next year's budget. Finally would it be worth sending a reminder email to the mapserver-users list that it is possible to sponsor MapServer through the GitHub link? Maybe there are some large organisations with end-of-year budgets to spend.
