Really appreciate your help – I need
just a little more (I hope). How do I delete the .st1 component
file? I made a copy of the geo file, and can see the component files, but
can’t find any way to delete them separately.

The shield and line style information are stored in
"style" files. Try the following:
1) Make a copy of the highway layer (best to do this
within Maptitude to ensure that all 9 of its component files get copied).
2) Delete the .st1 component file from the copy.
3) Open the copied highway layer (sans .st1 file)
within Maptitude.
