I do not believe that the purpose of forming this Fifth International is to be a cheering squad for a revolution in one country (I assume you mean the Bolivarian Revolution) You suggest trying something else in your response. Can we not do both? Why do you automatically counter pose this effort? And I do not see, what the concrete alternative you propose, to try something else. I know you are a serious person - so please let this list know, what you propose specifically with real resources and that is needed more and can be achieved. I see (and hope) this effort by Hugo Chavez and the political parties and individuals from many nations and lands, who have placed this call for forming a new international - as proposing something tangible and real, to proceed to set up better international cooperation and working together for opposing capitalism. I see no other current alternative to this fine call for this effort. Are you proposing the existing Second, Third or Fourth International groups as they currently exist, are either sufficient, or expected to be successful against the capitalist forces now organized and arrayed against us and all working people? I do know of current small political currents around the world - but they are not cooperating sufficiently to have any affect on building a truly effective alternative to capitalism. This seems the best thing to emerge in my lifetime. By forming a Fifth International, it allows previous disunited forces under the 2nd, 3rd, 4th Internationals to come together and move forward. Those from the 3rd International by joining this new force, will recognize the failings of the Third International. Why is this so hard to support? What is wrong with left unity? I want to end capitalism - not just discuss doing it. This proposal allows legitimate efforts to create cooperation on a world wide basis, far greater than what we can now do. We can do more than write about this - we can become active in it! This has the potential to be more than just a discussion or writings, but lead to serious work and actions. I await a reply of What Is To Be Done, that you state has not been done before, that you propose - INSTEAD of my promoting the potential of exciting people on this list to get involved and support others as well, who want to be part of this possible historic founding event and work and efforts towards Left Unity. Again I ask - why is discussing a film, taking more interest - than in the real world of the need to have Left Unity, on a world wide scale? Who benefits from these divisions and why have small newspapers and offices putting out the same basic political line, but insisting only they can lead a true world revolution. It is overdue, to have efforts at real unity - and I believe (and hope) that Hugo Chavez can excite and encourage the bringing together of wide sections of the Left across this world - and why would that be a problem? > Date: Thu, 14 Jan 2010 22:29:44 -0500 > From: [email protected] > Subject: Re: [Marxism] The left debates "Avatar" - instead of the 5th > International? > > Bullshit.
