I've had almost exactly the same experience over the early failures locally to even announce and publicize demonstration when they started. This was "too catch the police by surprise."
My suggestions went denounced as the efforts of an old middle class white liberal boomer trying to throw cold water on the enthusiasm and militancy if young black activists. Predictably, these were mostly made by genuinely middle class "young" white guys in their 40s, including small business owners. The more time passes between ongoing mass movements, the more the next cycle tends to reinvent the wheel. Some of these folks have explicitly cited the organizing work of the Weathermen. Learning from history just doesn't enter into it. Like the Antifa advocate who explained to me that fascism was allowed to take power in the past because "nobody had the guts to actually fight them." As if the Red Front, etc. had never existed! Our hope has to be that the numbers and persistence of the serious participantsts will enable them to learn from experience.
