It should be assumed that there are always provocateurs. The organizers have a political responsibility to make sure that anything such provocateurs might do can be used to recast the purpose of the demonstration--to make the people who responded to your call think twice before coming out next time.
This after-the-fact explanation that it was cops or right-wingers might well be correct. But it asks people to follow you into the woods with lots of tangled underbrush.
