Trump preferred to wage economic war against countries that defy the US empire. The economic blockades against Cuba and Venezuela were intensified. The nuclear deal with Iran was cancelled, and the economic blockade re-imposed.
Economic warfare kills people, e.g. through lack of food and medical supplies. But the people who die are not US citizens, so there is little domestic opposition. But the arms manufacturers did not suffer under Trump. Weapon sales to Saudi Arabia etc boomed. The people of Yemen suffered. Trumps economic warfare was not always successful. His trade war with China has had limited success. But he has certainly tried to advance the interests of US imperialism through economic warfare.
