Roger -- I see the displacement of indigenous peoples in the US as true "genocide" --- the population remnants are very slim --- even the Nazis did not succeed in killing ALL the Jews in Poland and other occupied countries --- even Germany proper --- I don't know enough about Canada but I've always suspected that because Canadian immigrants from Europe were not there in as large numbers as in the US, they didn't kill off anywhere near as high a percentage of the indigenous populations --- but this could just be pro-Canada bias and not real fact.
I would call the behavior of the CHINESE vis a vis the Uyghurs genocide just as the US did vis a vis Native peoples --- As to the nature of the US vs. the nature of China --- I think we in the US have a lot more room to "maneuver" politically --- note how the Chinese government is treating the movement in Hong Kong --- OIs China heading towards a new model of capitalist social democracy,one not seen in the west? One mixed with state capitalism?
