I think you mean Brophny's May, 2018 article from Jacobin? I have read several
by Brophny, including those at places like Made In China Journal.

I'm not a debator. I don't have those skills. What I require ,though, is enough
unbiased evidence to change my position.

Let me say this, I am a hardcore Maoist and defender of China. This includes
defending Mao for the Cultural Revolution. I have a hard time acccepting a lot
of these charges leveled at China, and question some of the sources. I also
admire a lot of what Xi has done, as far as modernizing China, and eradicating
poverty. If he has done this at the expense of dominance of American
capitalism, then more power to him. This colors the way I see China. I would
like to see China open up Xinjiang to unbiased international  inspectors, though.

That said, I don't think the treatment of the Uhygurs, as bad as it may be, can
at all compare with what the US has done to Islamic countries in the world.
Countries Like Iran in 1952, and what was done in our name in Iraq, Libya,
Sudan, etc. in the last thirty odd years. Invasions, sanctions, overthrowing
governments and executions of leaders, bombings, destruction of infrastructure,
and Islamic holy places, theft of natural resources, you name it. Not to
mention US aid to the Saudi war on Yemen, and all the harm it has caused, or
the slave markets that sprang up in Libya and Sudan, after the US actions.
Capitalism in action baby.

You want to talk genocide of Muslims? That's genocide of Muslims, but too few
people are talking about that.

Then we have the US- backed "color revolutions"  in places like Egypt, and all
the chaos left in their wake.

So, no, I do not believe anybody in the US government, or anybody in a NGO tied
to the US government, has any credibility, or moral right to get up on their
sanctimonious high horse, and lecture China about mistreatment of Islamic
people.
