You have to understand a few things here. The tendency among many on the left, is to automatically question any news that comes from any mainstream source, whether that source be Fox News, The New York Times, or MSNBC. Sources like Radio Free Asia are viewed as State Department or CIA propaganda. Many see them as no more trustworthy than Alex Jones. Most NGOs are not to be trusted either, as they have members with similar ties. Others like Adrian Zenz, have both far right politics, and have had the validity of their story brought into question. The global north is seen as imperialist, and untrustworthy. The US government has a history going back at least to the sinking of the USS Maine, of lying the country into wars, in order to conquer people of color. Mao, Stalin, and the DPRK are romanticized. This is the view I ,and many other leftists, share. Much of our news about China comes from either Chinese state media, or media friendly to China, which is seen as more credible than mainstream capitalist media. I know of countless US communists and socialists that share this view. Then there is the belief that the story of what is happening in Xinjiang is being exaggerated to maintain US and NATO hegemony. What's more, we now know about the lies, and foreign inflences, behind the so called "democracy protests" in Hong Kong a couple of years back. About the Dalai Lama, and his CIA connections, that came out many years later. For better or worse, comparisons have been made to the Uhygurs, and the Kuwati incubator baby story, and other such fabrications. Maybe the Uhygur situation is different. Maybe there is mistreatment of Uhygurs ,but it has been exaggerated. I've gone from a denialist to being on the fence. That is progress. There is a lot to overcome here. So you might understand how someone like myself might question the stories coming out of Xinjiang, and might find them more believable if either a country like Cuba came out in support of the Uyghurs, or if there were high ranking Chinese government officials, who came out as whistle blowers. No one dubts there is racism on the part of Han Chinese, and what I have learned about American capitalist support, before 2019, has opened my eyes a bit more. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Groups.io Links: You receive all messages sent to this group.
