Hari, you also asked what the Bolsheviks should have done between 1921- 1935. 
We must also have touched on that issue previously, because I recall saying 
that though it would have been better if the Soviets could have avoided the 
harshness of forced industrialization, as the Right and Left oppositions 
counselled at the onset, the crash program probably made the difference in the 
war against Hitler.

Have you previously expressed an opinion about the purges and show trials? That 
may be our only point of serious disagreement. I think they were outrageous, 
and I don't know how anyone could justify them and believe Trotsky, Bukharin, 
and Stalin's other political opponents were in league with the fascists to 
topple the Soviet regime.
