Sometimes it doesn't hurt to look at the actual facts when using Marxist
theory. During the first Trump administration, his top generals were the
ones who held him back. On two occasions Trump wanted to send the troops
into the streets but the military brass, Chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff
Mark Milley first and foremost, made it clear that they would actually
disobey him if he tried that. Then there were the numerous attempts to
overturn the election results BEFORE Jan. 6. These were all thrown out of
court.

Will it be the same this time?

First of all, as far as the challenges to election results - since 2020
some 70 election deniers have been elected to election commissions. One of
them is on the commission in the county that runs a central voting district
- Atlanta GA. Then we have the situation in Texas, where Texas AG Paxton
conducted a raid on the homes of Latino election activists plus a Latina
candidate for state office. They confiscated the cell phones and computers
of those people. That is like confiscating the tool box of a carpenter.
Paxton has also purged the voting rolls of 1,000,000 voters. You want to
guess who they were? The result: a lawsuit. You think that will stop them?
Not hardly. In Florida, DeSantis's cops are doing something similar while
in Ohio some 10,000 have been purged from the voting rolls.

As for lawsuits, ultimately the Supreme Court will decide. They have made a
decisive turn to Trump. John Roberts signalled that when he led the vote to
grant Trump immunity. Until then, he had showed concern that the court be
perceived as apolitical. That vote of his signalled that he didn't care
anymore.

As for the military holding Trump in check: Trump learned from his
previous administration. There has always been the Dr. Strangelove wing of
the command structure and those are the ones Trump intends to elevate.

As for the capitalist class: Yes, it's true that the great majority prefers
to continue ruling in the old way - through bourgeois democracy. Why not,
since the working class is hardly threatening their rule? But there is
another wing, small but significant - led by such capitalists as Peter
Thiel, Elon Musk and Tim Mellon - who sense the weakness of the working
class and figure "why not go all out?" These are the ones who elevated JD
Vance.

It's true that the present situation does not fit the Marxist formula for
Bonapartism or fascism. Instead of a situation where the working class is
challenging the capitalist class for power, we have the near total absence
of the working class as an independent force. This creates a huge vacuum,
and like nature class forces hate a vacuum.

By the way, I'm somewhat surprised to see this article here on this list,
since almost all socialists - Marxist or otherwise - seem to shy away from
warning about the dangers of the fascist connected Trump and his Republican
cult. Issuing such a warning might make it seem that they're soft on the
Democrats and that's a crime worse than any other.
