Regarding those that have favorable view of communism I am not sure they have any knowledge about Marx vision of communism. In essence, the 34% who view "communism" favorably are likely not endorsing Marxist-Leninist communism or even understanding it as such. They're expressing dissatisfaction with contemporary American capitalism and a desire for more economic security and equality, what might be better described as social democratic aspirations rather than communist ones in the classical sense.
