This consideration is in play now with MLRG. I will confess it is a long time since I have read Poulantzas - and I will need to brush that up in all seriousness.
However the central point you seem to make is that of a certain ‘independence’ of all (or at least the main) elements of the ruling class in the current administration - if I understand your argument and I am not over-simplifying it: "The whole interest of Bonapartism as a category lies in the opposite premise. Off the cuff - and thus not anywhere near a completed thought… But in the meantime, it seems to me that your hypothesis critically depends upon: i) Demonstrating that there was/is no overlap on the major issue of confronting China and the EU on the parts of the visible leading representatives of the DP and the RP. ii) Demonstrating that there was/is no overlap on the central theme of razoring the welfare state - and not simply a question of the degree and method of doing this. Fuller considerations I hope will be not too long away. We will as I say get our heads around this.
